Hearing Aid Services
Your hearing journey doesn’t stop once you purchase hearing aids. It’s a process that requires regular evaluations and support to help you get the most out of your investment. Hearing Associates offers hearing aid services designed to optimize your devices and guide you through the process of getting used to them.
After you select your hearing aids, we’ll measure your ears and order your devices. We will fit them to your ears using Real Ear Measurement (REM) and adjust the settings according to your hearing test results and preferences.

Our Hearing Aid Services
Comprehensive Hearing Aid Consultation
Our hearing aid services include regular hearing evaluations and assessments to verify your devices meet your hearing and lifestyle needs. Your audiologist can make adjustments based on technology and lifestyle preferences, too.
Hearing Aid Fittings
Proper fitting hearing aids allow for an effective and comfortable listening experience. Regardless of your hearing aid type, a snug fit prevents sound leaks that could cause whistling or feedback. Hearing Associates uses REM to make sure your hearing aid microphone is situated in your ear canal for optimal amplification.
Hearing Aid Repair and Maintenance
Hearing aids require consistent maintenance for peak operation. It’s also important to bring your hearing devices in for a thorough cleaning every few months to remove wax buildup, prevent moisture damage and assess wear and tear. Bring your devices in as soon as you notice signs of damage including cracks, loose components and feedback.
Latest Hearing Aid Technology
Your hearing changes over time, so you may require new devices. Hearing aid technology continues to advance and provide innovative features to make your listening experience even better. Your audiologist can recommend the latest hearing technology, including directional mics, machine learning, noise reduction and remote adjustment capabilities.
Education
Our commitment to your hearing health includes making sure you know how to clean and protect your hearing aids and change disposable batteries. Knowing how to maintain your devices will extend their lifespan and keep them performing at their best. The staff at Hearing Associates can also teach you and your loved ones about effective communication strategies and suggest accessories that enhance your hearing aid capabilities.
Hearing Aid Battery Recycling
Hearing aid batteries contain metals and chemicals that must be recycled properly. Hearing Associates offers recycling services to reduce waste and safely dispose of your used hearing aid batteries. Bring your old batteries to any of our locations during business hours.
What to Expect from Hearing Associates
We encourage you to bring your hearing aids to Hearing Associates quarterly so our expert staff can evaluate and clean them. We’ll also replace specific components, such as tubing, battery doors, ear hooks, wax guards and filters if necessary.
Walk-in maintenance services are available at our Mason City office from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. free of charge if your hearing aids are covered by a service plan. If you require programming assistance, please schedule an appointment at one of our locations in northern Iowa or southern Minnesota.

Hearing Aid Services FAQs
It’s important to schedule an annual hearing test if you have confirmed hearing loss or wear devices. Doing so allows your audiologist to check for any changes in your hearing and make necessary adjustments to your hearing aids.
Wiping your hearing aids with a clean, soft cloth daily helps remove earwax, moisture and oil. You can use a hearing aid brush or pic to dislodge debris from mics and speakers but be gentle while cleaning. Wax guards and ear domes should be replaced if they’re clogged or discolored.
It depends on the style, size and age of your hearing aid. Some rechargeable hearing aids last up to 36 hours before they need to be charged. Disposable hearing aid batteries can last around seven days. You may require more frequent charging or new batteries if you use Bluetooth, health monitoring and other features that use extra energy.
If you’re new to wearing hearing aids, increase how long you wear them over time to help your ears physically adjust. It’s essential to get a professional hearing aid fitting to optimize fit and comfort. You might need to try different ear molds to find the right size.
Remove your devices and clean them thoroughly before reinserting them to make sure they fit snuggly and are inserted all the way. Turn down the volume and turn on feedback cancellation if you have that feature. Consult your audiologist if the whistling continues.
